I wish I could show you the wonderful after pictures and have you ooh and ahh. Unfortunately as anyone who has attempted a remodel in real life, the hour-long HGTV show remodel just isn’t reality.

I do have 2 walls completely free of wallpaper but the people who did the wallpaper were not as conscientious as I wish they would have been. First, there was not primer on the wallboard. Second, the glue was not placed correctly so when removing the wallpaper some of the first layer of wallboard was also removed. Then there is the baseboard extravaganza in that the nails used for the baseboard were not finishing nails. The nails were regular nails and many were crooked when driven in the baseboard.

The tank on the toilet was impossible to remove. One of the bolts was stuck and I did not have the tools to remove it. I had to wait for reinforcements. Using the proper tools it was an easy removal.

Of course when in the middle of a remodel you must have the obligatory distraction. In this case it was the washer. The hot water hose had a bubble in it. The cold water hose was stuck due to a loose washer on the shut off valve which rusted the connection. After a trip to the Home Depot and learning how to use a hacksaw, the washer hoses were changed.  A five-minute job took almost 3 hours.

This week has provided little time to work on the half bath project. Work has successfully provided an obstacle in that I arrive home late and day-to-day activity keep me busy. I plan to finish the wallpaper removal this weekend.

I am  learning a great deal about remodeling. Things do not always go smoothly and sometimes you have to change your plans in the middle of the remodel. My goal is to have it completed in the next 2 weeks.
