Blogging : The Best or The Worst of Me

The blog prompt at NaBloPoMo  asked  “Does blogging bring out your best or worst self?”  For me, blogging is my way of expressing myself in a form I like the best: writing. I am not always able to voice myself verbally. My brain sometimes races and the ideas I wish to express do not always come out as I like. Blogging helps me slow the process and have the ideas conveyed in the way I intend.

The more I have blogged the more I noted a more calm and peaceful self. It allows me to be myself on these pages.  It allows me to present ideas and capture happy and important parts of me.  The blog allows me to showcase a hobby: my photography. I use the photography to help enhance the memory or the recipe I am creating.

This blog has also allowed me to create a memory for my family. My hope is that someday my granddaughter can look at this blog and it will help her recall our times together as well as get a sense of who “Gram” really was.

Some people say they write their blogs only for themselves. My feeling is that this is my primary purpose, however if I really only wanted it to be for me then I could keep a paper journal. I also write it for the person who is reading it and hope that maybe a part of my writing will help someone with a recipe or even a laugh for that day.

The most important thing this blog has assisted me in feeling confident. I have noticed that the more I blog the more I like the person I have become. Maybe the blog has allowed me to reflect and see I am a strong person and no longer that co-dependent woman I once was so long ago.

The verdict on the question posed : It definitely brings out my best self.

  1. I agree. I write my blog first for myself but obviously I want people to enjoy it too! Glad it brings out your best self 🙂

  2. Great post Kathy. Thanks for sharing. I write my blog mainly for my daughter, Shantel. Since she is blind, I can’t leave her photo albums of memories of our daily lives so I write about our day to day lives in my blog. I put pictures on my blog for anyone else who reads my blog so they have a better understanding of who I am, and what my family life is about. Because I’m writing about our daily lives as memories for Shantel, I keep it real honest and speak about the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly things that we have been through. Life isn’t always just fun and games. Thankfully, we have had more good times than bad. I want my daughter to remember the fun times, but I also want her to remember how we handled the less than fun times. I believe it’s how you handle things that makes all the difference.

I so agree with you. I think it is nice we can leave a little piece of ourselves for others to read and discover. Thanks for your support and comment
