Easter Sunday my family came for dinner. Of course my granddaughter had an Easter egg hunt when she arrived and the Easter Basket was at the end of the hunt. She isn’t given much candy so I came up with a couple of alternative gifts. There was money, the Frozen movie and a bubble fan. What I didn’t realize is which gift would be a big hit.
I bought her a Minnie Mouse soft bat and ball as one of the gifts in the basket. She immediately wanted to go outside and try it. I think the older kids were just as excited. We showed her the idea then it was batter up. First my daughter, her aunt, took some swings with her. She did get a few hits. Good thing as my daughter was a softball player in high school.
Next up my son, her dad, took his turn. My daughter in law was pitching and my son and granddaughter were able to put the bat to the ball.
During the time she was being helped she laughed and could not wait until the next ball. Suddenly she wanted to try it alone. She was persistent and of course at one point the sticker on her hand was coming off and that took precedence.
Suddenly it happened one swing of the bat and the picture tells the story.
Who knows there may be a budding softball player but the one thing I know the entire family definitely had fun playing.
This will be something she will always remember! What a great gift to include. I never played ball until I was around 28 and asked to play for a coed softball team for the firm (needed women!) I couldn’t hit or run,but the time I did connect, I will always remember. Great job Grandma! The picture is perfect!
I can’t wait to play with here more this summer. Never played formal ball but did play neighborhood ball. Minnie is her favorite Disney character and I truly believe in kids learning to play outdoors and not sitting in the house. Thanks for the comments
What a beautiful family. Love the idea of putting something in the basket that includes an outside activity. Fun for the whole family. I agree with Winnie “great job Grandma…” Your granddaughter is an absolute doll! Thanks for sharing. XoXo
I know her parents don’t like her to have tons of candy ( I don’t either). I thought I would make both indoor(movie) and outdoor things we could enjoy in the basket. I do enjoy when the family gets together. Thanks for your support and comment
Good for her, maybe she’ll become a baseball player! Athletics are so good for all kids, and especially girls, per many studies I’ve read. Great picture, she’s so cute!
I played basketball and my daughter played softball and basketball. I always encouraged both my kids to be involved in sports they were interested in playing as I think it does teach them teamwork and also is great for the exercise. Thanks so much
What a perfect gift! Smart, smart Gramma! I love baseball! We take all of our grandkids to play. Some of them are actually getting the ‘swing’ of it! 🙂 the best of times . . .
Thanks. We may move to the park that is close to us later this summer. Family time is the best of times
How cool that everyone got in on the action and that you were able to capture that shot!
The funny thing it didn’t take coaxing and all had a good time. I was so happy to be in the right place at the right time to get that shot. Thanks for stopping by
Spontaniety most always makes the best memories! You have a beautiful family!
Thank you. I am proud of them. I found out tonight she is practicing and wants her parents to play with her every day.
I’m just sorry young girls in my generation weren’t encouraged in that way!

I know I wish the same but I think this helped us encourage our daughters and young women to pursue their goals and excel in sports. Thanks for your comments.
